About the play

English is a co-production by Seda Iranian Theatre and ArtsWest, directed by Seda co-founder Naghmeh Samini and written by Sanaz Toossi. A story about a group of Iranians learning to speak English in preparation for the TOEFL, Test of English as a Foreign Language, English puts on the stage an experience many immigrants can relate to as they struggle not only with learning a new language but also with the changing nature of their own identities as they feel the push and pull between where they are from and where they are moving to.

Experience this powerful drama for yourself and see why it was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 2023.

While you’re there…

And while you’re there you’ll enjoy the bonus experience of an Iranian American art installation in the ArtsWest lobby. A blend of various materials and techniques by artist Audineh draw inspiration from American quilt and Persian weaving traditions.
