Woman, Life, Freedom: Films of Iran at Kirkland Library
Join Peyvand in partnership with the King County Library System each Tuesday in November to celebrate the rich tradition of Iranian cinema, at the Kirkland Library.
To mark the one-year anniversary of Mahsa Amini’s death and the Woman, Life, Freedom movement in Iran, we will feature a spectrum of women's voices from top directors. Shannon Ghanbari of the Iran Film Initiative at Peyvand will introduce the films.
November 28: Yalda یلدا
About the film: In modern day Iran, Maryam is sentenced to death after she accidentally kills her husband Nasser. She can only be saved if Nasser’s daughter forgives her on live television. The film offers a compelling and devastating look at a world where the ritual of forgiveness has been transformed into a reality television show.
